There 사용법

We use there... when we talk about something for the first time, to say that it exists

=> 말하면서 처음 언급되는 것이나 이미 존재하는 것에 대해 there이라는 가주어를 문장 앞에 놓습니다. 예문을 통해 확인하시죠.

ex) There's a new restaurant on Hill Street.

ex) "Is there a bookstore near here?"  "Yes, there is one on Market Street."

ex) I'm sorry I'm late. There was a lot of traffic. 

 

There + 조동사 형태

there is likely to be there is supposed to be there used to be

 

위와 같이 각각의 조동사 표현 앞에 가주어로 사용되는 경우가 많습니다. 아래 예문을 들어 알아볼게요.

ex) Look at those clouds. There is going to be a storm. I'm sure of it.

ex) People drive too fast on this road. I think there should be a speed limit.

ex) There's bound to be a cafe somewhere near here. (= There's sure to be ...)

ex) I was told that there would be somebody to meet me at the station, but there wasn't anybody.

 

It 사용법

It = a specific thing, place, fact, situation, etc... => 특정한 것, 장소, 상황, 사실 등을 가리킬 때 사용합니다.

ex) We went to the new restaurant. It's very good (It = the restaurant)

ex) I can't find my phone. It isn't in my bag - I just looked.

ex) It was Kim's birthday yesterday. We had a party.

it 가주어 to 진주어

Normally we use It... at the beginning of sentences

=> It 뒤에 오는 to 부정사를 진주어로 보통 앞에 it을 세워 문장을 만듭니다. 예문을 통해 보시죠.

ex) It's dangerous to walk on the road.

ex) It's too bad (that) you can't come to the party.

ex) It's not worth waiting any longer. Let's go.

 

시간, 거리, 날씨의 가주어

시간, 거리, 날씨를 말할 때 가주어로 앞에 it을 주로 사용합니다.

ex) How far is it from here to the airport?

ex) It's a long time since we met.
