셀 수 있는 명사 단수와 a/an

• a dog / dogs

Before singular count nouns you can use a/an and you cannot use singular count nouns alone.

=> 셀 수 있는 명사에는 하나 즉 단수 형태와 복수 형태로 나뉩니다. 여기서 단수 형태일 때는 혼자 쓰일 수 없고 앞에 a/an 또는 the/my/your 등등 앞에 관사 혹은 소유격 등이 붙어야 쓸 수 있습니다.

 

ex) Bye! Have a nice evening

ex) Do you need an umbrella?

ex) What a beautiful day!

ex) Did you hurt your leg?

ex) Be careful of the dog.

 

We use a/an .. to say what kind of thing something is, or what kind of person somebody is.

We use a/an when we say what somebody's job is.

=> 특히 이것은 ~이다 혹은 이 사람은 ~사람이다.라는 식의 구문에는 명사 앞에 항상 a/an이 붙습니다.  또, 어떤 한명의 직업을 말할 때 앞에 a/an이 붙습니다. 예문을 통해 확인하시죠.

셀 수 있는 명사 복수와 some

some을 사용할 때

You can use some with plural count nouns. We use some in two ways.

(1) some = a number (of) / a few (of) / a pair (of)

(2) some = some but not all.

=> some은 복수의 셀 수 있는 명사와 사용하는데 2가지 방식 중

(1) 첫번째는 두 개 이상의 것을 나타낼 때입니다.

(2) 두번째는 전부가 아닌 어떤 것을 나타낼 때입니다. 예문을 통해 (1),(2) 한번에 보시죠.

 

ex) I've seen some good movies recently (not I've seen good movies) --- (1)

ex) I need some new sunglasses. (= a new pair of sunglasses) --- (1)

ex) Some children learn very quickly. (but not all children) --- (2)

ex) You need a visa to visit some countries, but not all of them. --- (2)

 

some을 안 사용할 때

We use a/an .. to say what kind of thing something is, or what kind of person somebody is.

(a) In the plural, we use the noun alone.

(b) Do not use some when you are talking about things in general

=> 위에서 단수를 어떤 것이다 설명할 때 a/an이 쓰이지만, (a) 복수에는 혼자 쓰입니다. (some 이런 것도 안 붙음)

(b) 일반적인 것을 말할 때 some을 붙이지 않습니다.

 

ex) Those are nice chairs. (not some nice chairs) --- (a)

ex) I don't believe him. He's a liar. He's always telling lies. --- (a)

ex) I love bananas. (not some bananas, it is in general) --- (b)

ex) My aunt is a writer. She writes books. (not some books, it is in general) --- (b)
